by Joetommy, 5 years agoI'm not sure how to get in touch with the dev of this app other than leaving a review. Overall, this extension has made Twitch an actually usable site for me. I have pretty good internet for where I live (400Mb Down, 50 Up). But, for some reason, Twitch constantly had issues. Streams would buffer, I would constantly get error 2k and error 3k codes where the site just legit gives up on trying to keep me connected. The most annoying thing is the fact that Twitch is now embedding ads into the middle of streams, disregarding what's going on and bypassing traditional addons that were normally blocked as an element of the page I assume. Alt Player legitimately erased all of those issues. I can watch a stream with no buffering and only a slight delay between chat and the stream. I Just wanted to share some issues I've been having recently with the extension that I'm sure are more to do with Twitch and Firefox than they are to do with the extension. As of today (09/23/2020) I'm getting streamer run ads and I think, Twitch ads inside alt player. As other people have mentioned I'm also experiencing the extension crashing and breaking until firefox is restarted. I assume this has to do with the firefox 80 update and not the extension. Great addon overall though. Wanted to just see if there was a way to get in touch with the dev but, since its a review, I thought it deserved a full one.

1. Addon has BSD license without source code linked.
2. It sends telemetry, unique persistent device fingerprint, device, screen, date and time, time zone, CPU, GPU, languages information when you try to send a report.
3. Contrary to its policy (coolcmd.github.io/privacy.html#tw5-en), you cannot refuse to include the data, only refuse to send the report altogether.
4. The server URL is not disclosed: r90354g8.beget.tech/tw5/report3.php
5. Chat in the extension page doesn't save theme across browser sessions.

Each video would show some message like "That shouldn't have happened." I tried a few troubleshooting steps but nothing helped. Disabling this addon made it so i can watch amazon stuff again.

Still a 4 star since the actual functionality is perfect. Got this for the adblocking and the latency fixing and it seems to do both as good as possible.

Now I remember that I've tried this addon before for Firefox and I wish I could say that I could give this more than a 1-star but it doesn't work. I've tried figuring it out to be sure it wasn't me and I checked the other reviews here, but other folks seem to have problems getting this addon to function and play a live Twitch stream. To the author of the addon, if this addon worked once before, it sadly did not work for me more than a year ago and doesn't work now.

God forbid you try to load a few streams at once, you might as well go read "war and peace" before they load.

For a feature request, I was wondering if it would be possible to add 7TV support as currently I need to use Chatterino seperately to be able to see 7TV emotes in chat. Thanks for all the hard work!
