by Nikita, 3 years agoLove the add-on, but I recommend few QOL changes after testing it for a day or two, to avoid annoying new users:
1) By default, only these Conditions should be enabled:
- Mark a video as watched once it appears in the browser's history.
- Mark a video as watched once it has the official Youtube watched badge.
- Mark a video as watched once it appears in Youtube's watch history.
1) By default, only this Visualization should be enabled:
- Mark watched videos by slightly fading the thumbnail out.
- Show a textual badge in addition to graying out watched videos.
=====
I recommend this because I was REALLY annoyed that just opening a video by default marked is at "Watched". I'd rather the video actually watched, is labeled watched, because opening a video to watch it later in a tab marks it as "watched" (maybe add option to delay "Watch" status after a video is opened?).
So that means, with default visualizations options on, suddenly all videos I opened in a tab and didn't watch instantly, show up with grayscale, no YouTube bar, "WATCHED" label on the channel. So now I have no idea which video I actually watched (YouTube bar is a must ON to track this) because every thumbnails is generic looking grayscale. Faded thumbnails work better by default than grayscale (though option to "desaturate" thumbnails a bit would help too)
TBH, I admit, I did not check options initially because there are so many extensions running that the small blue icon didn't even show up on Toolbar for me, it went into overflow. There was no "Options" option when I checked the addon in "Addon & Themes" panel, so I assumed there were no options for this addon, and browsed away oblivious to the fact that there were definitely options.
I hope that is fixed too. Options should be accessible from Addon and Themes section as well when checking extension.
PS: Still a very useful extension. Turning off these extra options made it actually more useful to me than when everything was checked by default.

- Rated 4 out of 5by Virtpunk, 3 months agoUnfortunately, the viewing date for many videos is set to the date of installation of the extension. Secondly, if you enter a word in the YouTube history search, the viewing dates of all the videos that appear in the search will be updated to the current date, even if they were viewed 10 years ago.

- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 19097814, 4 months agoHonestly it more often doesn't work than it does.
as of today it adds videos I didn't watch to watched list. I deleted the video with app refreshed and it shows i just watched it (a minute ago) when i didn'tDeveloper response
posted 2 months agoNever hesitate to file an issue/bug on Github so we can look into this further [1]. Personally still working as expected for me but sometimes Youtube rolls out different versions to different users which makes it difficult to debug sometimes.

- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 17657751, 9 months agoExactly what I needed. Really clearly labels watched vids. Import from ff history and youtube then good to go. So good, i'm going to see if I can throw a donation at the author
- Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 18817403, 9 months agoAs of 2/4/25 it's currently not marking videos on the main youtube page as watched even if I've watched them. It's working on the subscription page and in search.

posted 9 months agoI just released version 4.7.1 with some small fixes, did this update start marking videos again on the main page by chance? If not, could you open an issue here [1] with some more details such that I can take a closer look? Thanks in advance!

[1] https://github.com/sniklaus/youtube-watchmarker/issues - Rated 5 out of 5by Marty, 10 months agoThis extension is great because you never click on a video that you have already seen. One thing that is not true is that it only works with the new YouTube user interface. Since YouTube changed the user interface, I've been using the YouTube Redux extension to get the old user interface back. I just don't like the fact that the comments are now on the right and there are suggestions for other videos below the video. The Watchmaker extension works perfectly with the YouTube Redux extension and everything runs smoothly, and I haven't noticed any problems. The YouTube Redux extension forces the previous user interface.
- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 18770097, 10 months agoGreat concept, but ultimately too many false positives for watched videos, even after adjusting the settings a few times. An in-browser "mark un-played" button would be helpful, as it is removing play marks from a text-only list is more work than it's worth for me.
Edit to add: Actually an option to have the extension mark a video as played only when the progress bar hits a certain threshold (100%, 95%, etc) would be idealDeveloper response
posted 10 months agoThank you for the feedback! You are not alone with this, you can find similar suggestions in the Github project [1, 2] but I am afraid that I don't know if/when I will be able to implement those, sorry!

- Rated 5 out of 5by Dragos, a year agoIt marks clearly watched videos. It's easy to export and import watched videos from a browser to another.
- Rated 5 out of 5by thefenrisulfr, a year agoI can't even remember what Youtube is like without this addon. Incredible work.
- Rated 5 out of 5by VOIIIXI, a year agoOne of my favorite add-ons on YouTube. I watch 100s of videos weekly and this helps me out a lot in tracking what I've seen and what I haven't. really fantastic add-on!!
